Ansell Liquid Personal Lubricant

Regular readers would know that we like to go the extra mile for you folks. We have watched some truly horrible porn right to the end and used some very dubious toys so you don't have to. I've even covered my junk in red hot ice cubes for your benefit. It isn't often that we find a product so bad that we just can't finish our testing. Last night, unfortunately, was one of those rare occasions.

Last night we decided to test out a new lube. It had the right credentials - it was by Ansell who's "Ansell Lifestyles Natural" we loved. We were expecting good things. Unfortunately, Ansell Liquid Personal Lubricant just didn't perform. It started off quite well. The packaging is attractive. The dispenser pump is well designed. Rubbing a bit on my fingers, it felt like a really thick silky lube and we thought we might be onto a winner. The problem started when we applied it to Mrs Dave.

Durex Play, 2 in 1 Massage Lotion and Lube

We were wandering through the supermarket the other day, miraculously child free, so we wandered down the lube aisle to see if there was anything new. After our recent successes with supermarket lubes (Wet Stuff, Ansell LifeStyles Natural) we were inclined to try some more. A large purple bottle caught our eye. The purple bottle contained Durex Play, 2 in 1 Massage Lotion and Lube. It was very reasonably priced, came in a large size and the packaging was pretty so we grabbed some.

The packaging is, as I said, quite nice. It's a large bottle with a rounded top (actually, it looks just like a very fat plastic vibe). The bottle is designed to sit with the flip top lid facing down so all the lube runs down top where the opening is rather than a normal bottle where it all pools at the opposite end to the opening and you need to wait for it to run down when you need some in a hurry. Smart. If they were even smarter they would have made the bottle just a little thinner so you could actually use it as a dildo. That's real 2 in 1 thinking. As it is, it's just too thick to be comfortable. At least for Mrs Dave anyway, your results may differ. But enough on the packaging, how did it work?

Wet Stuff

As regular readers will no doubt remember, we are on a quest to find a replacement for Maximus, our favourite (and now unavailable here in Oz) lube for toys and anal play. After our enormous lube shopping spree we ended up with a cupboard full of different lubes and over the last few weeks we tried them one by one. We found some good ones but nothing that would do the job of Maximus. We looked in our lube cupboard this week to work out which one to test next and to our surprise there was only one left. This was it. Make or break time. One last chance to find our Maximus replacement (well.. OK... we could just go to the sex shop again and buy a bunch more stuff to try but where's the dramatic tension in that?).

What remained untested was a tube of Wet Stuff Plus. Put out by Gel Labs, this is, according to the blurb on the tube" a "proudly Australian made and Australian owned" lube. This was the cheapest lube we bought at the sex shop and since then we have actually seen it in large pump pack at the supermarket so it is very easily available (in Australia anyway). Wet Stuff comes in a bunch of different varieties - flavoured, warming, sensitive skin, thick, thin. All up there would be at least 10 varieties. The Plus is listed as thicker and "extra silky" so we picked that one as it seemed closer to what we wanted. So how did it perform? Ladies and gentlemen... we have a winner.

Ansell LifeStyles Natural

Latest in our series of lube reviews is Ansell LifeStyles Natural. This is another one we picked up at the supermarket, so it should be fairly widely available. This was fairly cheap (under $10) for the 100ml, so I had no idea of what quality we were going to be looking at, but we decided to give it a go. It was sitting next to the KY when we grabbed that so we though why the heck not. We did restrict ourselves to two supermarket lubes though, even though they did have others available. Adult shops don't blink when you buy a bunch of lubes to try but a shopping trolley half filled with lube is likely to get some funny looks at the supermarket. And the kids were with us. Maybe next time.

It claims to be both paraben and fragrance free, and comes in a 100ml bottle with a pump top. It took us a while to open it because the pump has a lock on it, and figuring out which way to turn it was challenging. Then we discovered that the pump has a massive squirt on it (yes, you can insert your own obvious joke here). The pump is quite stiff and the hole where it comes out is quite small so if you aren't really careful when you squirt it, rather than just a blob on your fingers you end up with it halfway down your arm. Or all over the bed or somewhere equally inappropriate.

Swiss Navy

So... what's the difference between a vacuum cleaner and the Swiss Navy? One sucks and never fails. The other... is a water based lube. That's right folks. It's another lube review. Swiss Navy Premium water based lubricant. We picked up a small bottle of this as part of our quest to find a new anal lube. Over the last couple of nights we put it through its paces.

This comes in a 60 ml pump pack so it's already ahead of the Pjur Aqua for packaging. It's a thinner lube but not watery. We were quite surprised at how little the pump dispenses; it's only a tiny blob, but after using it we can see why. This stuff goes a long way. One or two squirts was all it took to get things started. So how did it perform?
