Next in our series of lube reviews is Pink Unity, from the same people who brought us Pink Water - Empowered Products.

Pink Unity is a hybrid silicone lube. That is, it is a blend of silicone and water based lubes. The advertising blurb claims that it has a "thick, satiny smooth gel formula" and "slickness of silicone, ease and convenience of water". All good, it also claimed to be non-staining and glycerin and paraben free (that's good because I discovered later that Pink Water had some parabens in it, which I didn't realise when I bought it). How they managed to blend oil and water, I couldn't imagine, but I thought it was worth a try.

One bottle of Pink Unity (and quite a few bucks - this is more expensive than Pink Water) we hit the first snag. The bottle has plastic shrink wrap over it. When Dave unwrapped it, he also unwrapped all the printing off the bottle - it had been printed on the wrapper, rather than directly on the bottle, like the Pink Water was. Now I don't know whether this was an error on their part, or a deliberate decision, but it was annoying. And no, Dave didn't take more off than he should have; there was no perforation to indicate that he should have stopped at the top of the bottle or anything. Anyway, the bottle was as well sealed as the Pink Water bottle was, to ensure no spillage. Although I have to say, this stuff is thick. So thick that the air bubbles that got trapped when the bottle was filled are still there and clearly visible. They simply don't move. So I don't think that spillage is a real risk with Pink Unity.

Like Pink Water, the bottle is thick plastic, and as it is still winter here in Sydney, it took ages to warm up the lube. Anyway time came to try it out. I have to say, it was a huge disappointment. It felt OK being rubbed between the fingers at first but this is weird stuff. After a few seconds the incredibly thick gel kind of melts away and you are left with nothing much at all. It just felt kind of slightly damp. If you rub it between your fingers for a few seconds it feels just like you have washed your fingers and not dried them - not wet but just slightly damp. Slightly damp does not make for comfortable sex. Dave's cock dragged at every thrust and while he managed to cum, I didn't (don't worry, he fixed that later). For regular sex - 3/10.

We didn't even try it for toys and wanking. As for anal - no way.

So for us, Pink Unity was a dead loss, and a waste of money. If you like really thick silicones then it may work for you, but it's not for us.
