We were wandering through the supermarket the other day, miraculously child free, so we wandered down the lube aisle to see if there was anything new. After our recent successes with supermarket lubes (Wet Stuff, Ansell LifeStyles Natural) we were inclined to try some more. A large purple bottle caught our eye. The purple bottle contained Durex Play, 2 in 1 Massage Lotion and Lube. It was very reasonably priced, came in a large size and the packaging was pretty so we grabbed some.
The packaging is, as I said, quite nice. It's a large bottle with a rounded top (actually, it looks just like a very fat plastic vibe). The bottle is designed to sit with the flip top lid facing down so all the lube runs down top where the opening is rather than a normal bottle where it all pools at the opposite end to the opening and you need to wait for it to run down when you need some in a hurry. Smart. If they were even smarter they would have made the bottle just a little thinner so you could actually use it as a dildo. That's real 2 in 1 thinking. As it is, it's just too thick to be comfortable. At least for Mrs Dave anyway, your results may differ. But enough on the packaging, how did it work?
As usual, we tried regular sex first. It's a very thick lube. Really, really thick. Thicker than KY thick. It's actually a bit too thick. It's very slippery but really thick. Imagine driving your dick into a tub of thick molasses. It's that kind of thick. It tends to drag a little. It also tends to dry out and start to gum up after a few minutes so you need to re-apply fairly often. Not bad. If you like a really thick lube and a lot of friction then you will like it. We like things a little slipperier so we're giving it 6/10.
Toys were next. We lubed up the calibrated test instrument (Mrs Dave's favourite wooden dildo) and set to work. The thick lube was good in that it stayed where it was put but again, just too thick for us and dries out pretty fast. 6/10.
Solo was our next test. On me it worked OK. Quite nice to wank with but if you want something longer than a few minutes, you need to re-apply a lot. For Mrs Dave, not so good. She likes a lot of fast clit action to finish her off and this was just too thick to get the fingers moving fast enough. 5/10.
Anal came last and this was where we thought the thicker lube might really work well. It did, kind of. I tried it on my anal beads while Mrs Dave tried it on the vibrating plug. It works great getting things in. It's slippery and the thickness is nice for a cushioning effect. It's too thick to really move easily though so didn't work so well on my beads. Worked better on a more static toy like the plug. Except for the drying out problem. Remember how we said it really gums up after a few minutes. Yep. Getting plug in - easy. Getting plug out after 15 mins or so, yeah, well, not so good. 4/10.
Mrs Dave said that it did feel nice from a massage perspective, as she tried rubbing some on her skin. While it is a 2 in 1, this isn't quite what we bought it for though.
This would be a good lube for people who like a really thick lube and some extra friction. Just bear in mind that it does dry out so you'll need to re-apply often. Overall 5/10.
