The Hustlers is another movie which the Prof was kind enough to include in our Xmas box. It was released in the early to mid 90's by Midnight Video and features Savannah (in apparently her last role) and Buck Adams (also the director). The Hustlers lays some pretty big claims. "Shot on film" screams the box which implies a big budget production with real acting and stuff. Unfortunately they omitted one key word - badly.
Let's just say that no Oscars for cinematography were won here. Or acting. I suspect they had some old film stock they needed to use up and didn't have time to write anything decent. Or hire anyone who could act. Don't get me wrong, there is a plot. Just not much of a plot. It certainly doesn't live up to the big budget claims. The Hustlers also features the worst attempts at acting I have ever seen in a porn. I don't mean the stilted dialogue in a low-rent all anal extravaganza. That's OK... in that type of porn you don't expect acting. Just fucking. This one though, has just enough of a plot that they need to act (beyond "Hi.. let's fuck.") but most of them, especially Tony Martino, just can't do it. We are talking Keanu Reeves wooden here. Sly Stallone can deliver his lines with more emotional depth.
Essentially Buck Adams plays a drifter and pool hall hustler who lands back in LA (after being thrown out of LA and having his thumbs broken a few years ago for being just a little too good at hustling) down on cash. He goes to a pool hall to see who he can hustle for money. He meets the local heavies - Ron Jeremy (LA Money) and Tony Martino (sporting an award winning mullet) and their bevy of beauties - Brittany O'Connell, Diva, Nikki Shane and Victoria Gold. After winning a pool game, Buck goes to find his long-lost girlfriend Savannah. Much hot sex ensues. This actually looked like a scene between two lovers who had been apart for a long while. They were both really into it and a good time was had by all.
In the meantime, Brittany O'Connell and Diva are shagging enormously muscled Dan Steele in punishment for losing the game to Buck. Now this Dan Steele dude is a mystery - he had really definite tan lines from his thong (the tan, the thong and the massive muscles indicate a bodybuilder), but when the cum shot was done, no tan lines. It was like it was a different cock - a stunt cock, perhaps? Maybe he had a bad day and couldn't perform at crunch time. That or the steroids were taking their toll.
Anyway, the next scene is Tony Martino "punishing" his newest girl, Rebecca Wild, who didn't show up to work on time. "Punishment" consists of him licking her pussy then shagging her. Well if that's punishment then lay it on. Actually having to shag that mullet may have been a punishment. The scene was good and they both seemed to enjoy themselves.
Buck then decides he needs to get some fast cash and settle down. He ask Tony to back him against Ron in a high stakes game. After asking Ron for a game, Ron asks for time to think about it and shags the bevy of beauties in the meantime. Yes, Ron was still performing at this point, without the cheesy moustache (which made him look quite different) and mercifully with a shirt on most of the time. Brittany O'Connell, Nikki Shane and Rebecca Wild seem to have fun with him.
The match takes place, and Savannah ends up being part of the stake. To prove her worth, she has a scene with Diva and Victoria Gold on a pool table which was pretty good (and amusing - Ron covers the baize so their girl juice doesn't stain it. Baize is expensive stuff, after all.). The bet goes ahead when Diva and Victoria vote Savannah good stuff and Buck eventually wins the game. However, Savannah isn't impressed with being part of the bet and gives him his marching orders. He decamps with a suitcase full of cash and full of good intentions to try to behave better in future.
Apart from the half-way decent story, this is pretty much basic early 90s porn. Lots of bad boob jobs, big hair, big makeup and flondes. Savannah is OK, but I don't get the big deal of her as a performer. There are heaps of other starlets who look good and fuck just as well. And many of them are still alive too. At least I know where Jesse Jane copied her silly pout from now. Brittany O'Connell is the pretty redhead - it's a shame there aren't more reds in porn. Diva is the stand-out looker - we couldn't work out her ethnic background. She seems to be part African-American, part American Indian or Asian. According to IAFD she's of Polynesian/American/Italian background. Whatever she is, she has striking looks. And unfortunately the worst boob job I've seen in a long time.
So there's The Hustlers for you. Not outstanding, but not the absolute pits either. It's cheap porn with delusions of grandure. It's probably not a keeper, unless you really dig Savannah or one of the other girls.
