Memories within Miss Aggie

Another classic this week. This time it's Memories Within Miss Aggie, produced in 1974 by Gerard Damiano (who brought us The Devil in Miss Jones). Apparently this was his idea of what would happen to Justine Jones if she hadn't killed herself and ended up in hell. Doesn't sound very light and breezy does it? And indeed it isn't. This was a rather dark film. Actually it was a lot dark. It was porn meets Psycho.

Aggie (Deborah Ashira) is an old lady who lives in a small cottage in the country with Richard (Patrick L Farrelly) her wheelchair-bound and not very talkative husband. The problem is that Aggie can't remember how they met. She keeps trying to remember and it distresses her that she can't, so she keeps making up fantasies.

First she is an innocent, golden haired girl (Kim Pope), who has been kept away from male company by her parents until she meets, and is swept off her feet, by a dashing Richard (Eric Edwards) who proceeds to de-flower her in a very well done scene. It was a very gentle and passionate scene, although she did learn to suck dick very quickly for someone who had never seen one before. The scene ends on an abrupt note when Aggie realises that that wasn't how it was at all.

Next she is a raven-haired beauty (Mary Stuart), kept locked in an attic until Richard (Harry Reems) climbs up and ravishes her in another nice scene. Or was she an expensive call girl (Darby Lloyd Rains), masturbating for her client (Ralph Herman) until he takes her away from her sordid life to live with him? Each time the fantasy ends abruptly as Aggie realises that this wasn't the way it really happened and struggles to remember. The film was getting distinctly creepy at this point.

What next? This time she is a lonely spinster who meets an itinerant worker on the road and offers him a job cutting wood in exchange for a hot meal. Was this real? Maybe, but something is missing. Did she, out of loneliness and desperation, try to seduce him? Then stab him in the eye with a huge knife to stop him from leaving? Has she been pushing his corpse around in a wheelchair for the last 20 years while listening to the voices in her head? Has she been making up fantasies for the last 20 years to stop herself thinking about what she really did?

No, she says... that can't be it... I must have been the golden haired girl...

This was a really creepy film. Well acted and well put together. The sex scenes were very well done. I'm just not sure the whole horror porn thing works. OK... camp horror and porn works, but this sort of Hitchcock-style psychological horror and porn, not so much. Well, not if your aim is to have a good night in bed followed by a vigorous shag.

If you want a good horror film with sex in it, this is for you. If you want something to shag to, not so much.
