MrsDave here and this week we're reviewing The Expert Guide to Anal Pleasure for Men. We've gone for a different review style for you this time, it's a double review, so you'll get both our opinions on the movie. This is one of Tristan Taormino's Expert Guide series from Smart Ass Video and was released in 2009. I hadn't seen any of Tristan's work before this, and we've got a couple more to be watched, so look out for those reviews in coming weeks.
The Expert Guide to Anal Pleasure for Men is aimed at women who are looking at boning their male partners. It's a bit like Nina Hartley's educational series (of which we reviewed Fellatio and Cunnilingus) but better produced, up to date, and not boring.
Anyway, we open with shots of gorgeous women putting on strap-on dildoes and rubber gloves, with Tristan's voice over. She then introduces the production with a brief rundown of what it's about and snippets of the feature. I have to say, Tristan looks very safe and non-threatening - more like some-one's mum than a porn producer (and certainly better dressed than Nina was in her features). She interviews three porn girls and their partners (one partner is in porn himself). They talk about how anal play is good for men, and what they get from it. An important point Tristan makes is that liking anal play doesn't mean that a guy is gay. It just means he likes how it feels.

That last point is pretty crucial. It does put a lot of guys (and their partners) off trying it. I know Mrs Dave was very freaked out about it when we first tried it years ago. She was a pretty innocent type and I was quite a bit kinkier. Tristan does indeed look like a kindly school teacher and not a porn star. Not in a frumpy, old way though.
The three couples (Penny Flame and Devin, Annie Cruz and Nomad, and Jandi Lin and Christian XXX) discuss with Tristan how they like doing it, with the guys describing what they do and don't like, and what helps. Her strongest point throughout the whole video is that "if it hurts, you're doing it wrong!". She gives some very good advice to those starting out (like padding the tips of a glove with cotton wool to protect delicate anal skin from long fingernails) and shows how to go about dealing with someone else's anus for the fist time.
Tristan really know her stuff. All the advice she gives in this film is spot on. Key message – go slow, use plenty of lube and if it hurts stop. I know we have been a little hasty at times and it has gotten somewhat uncomfortable. Anal sex , for men or women, is something you really have to take some time over and work things slowly. Unless you do it all the time, in which case I imagine it gets quicker with practice.
We then get scenes of all three couples at it with the guys getting boned.
There is more to the fucking scenes than just fucking. There is a voice-over in places from Tristan (though you can turn that off) describing what's going on and how to do it right. Each scene demonstrates some of the techniques that were discussed earlier. And they aren't boring. Unlike Nina's efforts, Tristan actually manages to mix education and some pretty good sex together.
Other options on the DVD are also short guides to safer sex, how to choose and wear a strap-on, solo prostate stimulation and anal hygiene and enemas (as in, how to give yourself one). Plus there's the usual assortment of trailers.
Dave has made no secret of the fact that he likes prostate stimulation and anal play, and we've been indulging him in it for around 15 years. I have to say though, I wish I had seen this video all those years ago when we first started anal play, as that would have made things a lot easier for me. Back then, very few people were talking about anal for men (unless they were gay) and I needed all that reassurance that it didn't mean he was gay. It also would have meant that my first attempts would have been far less clumsy than they were.
Yep. Seriously, ladies, if you are even curious about giving your guy anal pleasure, and guys if you are even slightly curious about receiving it, get a copy of this film and watch it. Together. Had we had this film 15 years ago it would have made life so much easier.
So ladies, if you are thinking of indulging in a little anal play with your men (or even if you already do it), please watch this first. Even after all these years, I still learned stuff.
