The other night the To Be Watched pile brought forth An Open Invitation: A Real Swingers Party in San Francisco, released by Private in May 2010. This film is one we were a little hesitant about, given that we haven't embraced the swinging lifestyle, but it turns out to have been well worth it. It is a seriously good film.
Directed by Ilana Rothman and featuring India Summer as Alison Bloom and James Deen (last seen by us in Tristan Taormino's Expert Guide to Female Orgasms) as her husband Will, this film also features 127 amateurs in its finale, filmed at a genuine swingers party. So you get porn bodies and real bodies all in the same film. This also won India Summer a Best Actress award at the AVN Awards in 2011 (tied with Andy San Dimas). This film features the new wave of porn professionals so more natural bodies, less fake boobs, more tatts and real orgasms.
Alison and Will are new to San Francisco. Despite being very pretty, both of them, they, like many married couples, have normal person sex - loving, but occasionally unfulfilling, not terribly often and short (it's a big deal that she's asking for it on Tuesday when they already had sex that week). Amazing as it may seem, this struck pretty close to home for Dave and I. With 2 kids and a house to look after, foreplay often degenerates to "you awake?" and fucking all night takes second place to a good night's sleep. Vivian and Adam Angel (Lorelei Lee and Micky Mod) on the other had have fantastic, wild and raunchy sex. The sort of sex we used to have, before children. Only with more butt plugs.
At dinner one night, Alison and Will have a chance meeting with Vivian and Adam, and after lots of alcohol to lubricate the situation they get invited by the Angels to a 'party' at a friend's home. Cue their first introduction to swingers. It all starts very normally but people start behaving... strangely. A shocked Will asks Adam if he is OK with Vivian snogging another man. Adam's calm reply is that they trust one another and they don't pretend that they don't have urges to meet with other people. Alison is a little confronted when she opens the door from the toilet to find a vigorous threesome going on in the bed outside the door. During the discussion that follows, Vivian starts to play with Alison, and things move on from there. Both couples end up having public sex and thoroughly enjoying it.
The next morning, neither Will nor Alison can believe what has happened, but instead of regretting the experience, their only regret is that they don't have the contact details of the Angels to meet up with them again. Exit normal sex and enter amazing sex. They fuck like, well, porn stars, but it was done in such a way that they look genuinely fond of one another and it fits in the course of their sexual journey.
Through a series of curious circumstances (and a very awkward, very funny client meeting) Alison finds Vivian and they have sex in Vivian's photographic studio. Now regular readers will know that I am not a fan of girl-girl sex - it just doesn't float my boat. However (and this is a big however from me) this scene was completely different. We both got into it so much that when we had a temporary power glitch and it stopped playing, I was genuinely frustrated by the delay. This is seriously hot sex. Between two very attractive women. Who'da thunk that I'd get into it? But get into it I did.
Anyhoo, the Blooms journey into the swingers lifestyle culminates in them attending a genuine, open-to-all-cummers, swingers' party and getting seriously into the event. As I mentioned earlier, this film features 127 amateurs. It also has 11 other porn actors and actresses, a few that we hadn't seen before and a few that we've not seen much of so far (such as Wolf Hudson). This was a long scene, but really finishes off the film well. The swingers party really looks like an amazing event. We were really wishing we were there watching (and maybe participating in) the amazing array of fucking going on.
Overall, this is a fantastic couples film, featuring really good sex and a diversity of bodies. If you are thinking about swinging, this is possibly a good way to broach the subject with your partner. While the leads are genuine porn performers, they do act as couples well (actually that's something else, the acting is really good in this film). The locations are great, the sets are great, the clothes are great (I saw at least two pairs of shoes that I covet). Whether it will lead us to experiment with swinging ourselves, I don't know (we rely on grandparents for child minding and "could you mind the kids tonight,.. we're going to an orgy" is a difficult conversation to have with your mother-in-law). Would I recommend the film? Absolutely!
According to the Private website there will be one filmed in Barcelona soon, so we'll have to look out for that when it hits the streets.
