Whoops! We were relying on our buffer, and didn't notice that it had run out, so please accept our apologies for the late review this week.
It's a book review for you this time - "The Ecstatic Moment: A Collection of Erotic Adventures". This was edited by Marianna Beck and Jack Hafferkamp, the founding editors and publishers of "Libido: The Journal of Sex and Sensibility", and published by Bantam in 1997. Neither the book (nor the journal, for that matter) is still in print unfortunately, however searches for both reveal plenty for sale second hand through all the usual dealers.
Libido was a particularly classy erotic journal and while it lasted, was much better than anything else on the market at the time (or since, for that matter). Think, quality magazine filled with top grade erotic fiction and art from the finest erotic artists and photographers, delivered to your door every month and you have a pretty good idea of what Libido was about. Unfortunately, a high quality erotic journal couldn't survive the Internet and the resulting avalanche of cheap, badly-written erotic fiction it spawned. Our back issues, a website not updated since 2006, and this book, are all that remain. The writing in Libido was exceptionally well done, and the editors have chosen wonderful examples to fill this book with.
This collection of short stories and poems is guaranteed to float just about anyone's boat. There are weird stories, there are laugh-out-loud stories. There is sex involving food, there is sex involving museums (not my particular quirk). There are orgies, there are threesomes, there are solo sex stories. There's S&M. There's even sex on another planet. And to cap it off, the editors have included an Afterword of how to write erotic fiction.
Being short stories and poems, it's easy to dip in and out of. The book is great and has provided several hours of arousal. So much so, in fact, that unless relief is easily to hand (as it were) you probably won't be able to read much in one go.
So, highly recommended and start trawling the second hand dealers.
