Let me set the scene... We have been waxing Mrs Dave's bits for years now. Pretty much the full Brazilian except with a neat triangle left standing. The problem is that it was never a very neat triangle. You know how it is - hairs that start inside the triangle but grow sideways so the end sticks over the edge. So we got the trimmer so we could trim the edges and tidy things up.
Now as it happens, while the trimmer was in the air on its way to us, we had a waxing disaster. The waxing from hell. When I say "we have been waxing" I do mean we. We do it at home using a home made wax made from sugar and lemon juice (middle eastern recipe). Now this stuff is good but tends to be a bit variable. Now on this particular day there had been a small amount of fooling around beforehand so things were a little... sensitive. This coupled with a new batch of wax which hadn't quite worked right lead to Mrs Dave being burned, bruised and still hairy. The next day we started getting quotes on the laser hair removal thing.
Now the thing with the laser treatment is that after waxing you have to let it re-grow for ages. "I do not want to look like a yeti" said Mrs Dave when she contemplated many unwaxed weeks. So the trimmer turned up just in time. We can trim things up and keep things neat while waiting for all the hair to re-grow from the waxing.
It does a pretty good job. Its quick and easy to use. It trims just above skin level rather than below like a normal razor so there's no itchy regrowth. All in all a pretty good product. The only thing I will say is that if you want something that will last a lifetime, this probably isn't for you. the build quality isn't that great (like most of these novelty things) so I'm not sure how long it will last but great for occasional use. Oh .. and if you are used to the smoothness of waxed skin (and the soft regrowth), the razor stubble is a bit of a shock. We haven't tried any of the shape templates yet since we're trying to keep it trimmed to the line the laser people will use but once the lasering is done we might fool around with some shapes.
Overall a big thumbs up.
Oh... and one other thing... If you are used to waxing where all the hair sticks to the wax, just remember - with the trimmer, the clippings just fall right there. I recommend a quick wash BEFORE you apply a tongue. Unless you like coughing up furballs for a few hours.
