Smartballs

Time for another product from Germany's Fun Factory - their Smartballs. No, these aren't intelligent testicles. Instead they are the Fun Factory's modern take on the ancient, oriental Ben Wah or geisha ball.

Now I've used Ben Wah balls for years - little metal balls that you insert into your puss to keep it toned and those pelvic floor muscles tight. They also help with bladder control when sneezing, exercising or jumping on trampolines after pregnancy. I used them after our first child was born and found them to be really good. BUT, if you don't concentrate, one can slip out, disappearing in to the leg of trousers, or worse, into the foot of tights or pantyhose. I then found I had to dig around in there to find the other to get it out, as it would hide up around my cervix, and be difficult to get at. I also don't know what metal they were made of, but with use, the pretty gold coating wore off, and they started looking dirty. The other problem was that they clanked a bit. I never wore them out of the house, so I don't know if others would notice, but I certainly did.

Eventually I needed to move up a step and get a bigger and heavier pair, to work my muscles harder. The next pair had the same problems - clanking and one dropping out but the other hiding. Oh, and by this stage the kids were older, and noticed if something dropped out from under my clothes and went rolling across the floor.

So I had to look for something else.

SmartballsI heard about the Smartballs and decided to give them a go. Like the LAYAspot, they are made of Elastomed, so they last. Like the LAYAspot, they are packaged in a PET plastic blister pack with a cardboard surround, and have detailed instructions and a sample of their BodyFluid. They are made in about 9 different colour combinations. They are the same basic concept as your traditional Ben Wa ball but a little bit different. There are two heavy balls, encased in the Elastomed, but moving within their casing so their weight shifts around in there as you move around. They are joined, so you can't lose one of them (yay). There is a string to pull them out so they can't hide up there (yay). They are big!

These are much bigger than any balls I've used before. So much so, that they require lubrication to get them in (the smaller Ben Wah balls don't). And I must admit, that the first time I used them (un-lubed because I had never needed to use lube with a ball before), I found them to be really quite painful to wear. I have often wondered whether my particular anatomy means that I'm not very big inside and more specifically, not very long. The first time I tried the Smartballs was, frankly, a disaster. So I shoved them aside, promptly forgot about all the various balls I had, and only occasionally remembered to do the physical pelvic floor exercises. Skip forward 18 months or so, to writing reviews for this site, and I realised that I hadn't really given them a good try.

The key to inserting them is to lube them up, as they are, as I have mentioned, big. 38mm in diameter big in fact. They are also heavy, weighing in at about 70 grams. That doesn't sound like much until you think about how tiny those particular muscles are. And tiny muscles tire quickly. The inner balls move independently inside the outer balls, so you get extra sensation. They are quiet once inserted, and I don't think anyonen else would notice them. However these particular balls aren't just for strengthening. You can wear them for extra senastion while your clit is stimulated. I have to say that using them with a clit vibrator at the same time worked wonders!

Walking around with these in isn't difficult. Repeatedly sitting, then standing, proves more of a challenge, because of the way the pelvis tilts when sitting. Start with 5 mins per day and work your way up. Some sites recommend wearing them all day, every day. I'm not at that stage, although I can now manage a couple of hours. I do recommend them though. Buy them and see. Your vagina will thank you, and if there is a man in your sex life, he will thank you too!
